Aesthetic Dentistry
Aesthetic dentistry is about improving the smiles by either changing the shape and sizes of teeth or simply changing their color, or both. The concept of Smile Design has already become popular.
A beautiful smile is usually constructed by using various shades of composite resins or specially fabricated ceramic veneers or crowns. There are solutions for all kinds of stains, odd shapes and irregular sizes of teeth. The procedure is completed in 1-2 sittings and is painless. Local anesthetic injections are rarely needed.

In many situations the gum margins are adjusted surgically using Lasers to improve the uniformity of the teeth significantly. This is called gingivoplasty or Crown Lenghtening.
Composites are tooth coloured materials available in various shades and opacity. It is a semisolid material which sticks firmly(adheres) with the tooth surface with the help of chemicals (etchant and bonding agent). It becomes hard and homogeneous with the tooth on activation by blue light of a specific frequency. Hence therse are called light cured fillings. The pastes are moulded in shape and size to accuratly mimic the lost portion of the tooth. The dentist here is more of an artist rather than a scientific man. After curing, the restoration is polished and finished using special tools to get the natural tooth like finish.
Veneer is a thin wafer of a tooth coloured ceramic which is chemically fixed to the front surface of the teeth. It is preapered in the laboratory on the model of the defective teeth and is then fixed onto the teeth. This needs some prior preparation of the tooth surface. This is a metal-free prosthesis. It is very technique-sensetive and may get dislodged or break on heavy impact, which is irrepairable; but is more durable than composites as it does not ware off easily.
